I wish physics worked like this...
Unfortunately, when they jump, they would push the earth away from them, and due to Gravity it would be attracted back towards them as they were to it, which combined with Keplarian Orbital Forces mean that nothing would happen...
...but I wish physics worked like this.
What I'd like to see it a planet-wide impulse pushing us sunwards, resulting inevitably in us inhabiting the same Keplarian orbital as Venus. Then, we should apply impulses such that Venus and Earth would become a tidal-locked planet-pair, like Pluto/Charon. Then we should build a bridge between Earth and Venus. That would be awesome.
